Bremelanotide is back! :)

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Palatin Technologies - manufacturer of BremelanotideA long time ago, in May 2008, I wrote about how PL-6983 is the new version of Bremelanotide after the FDA shot down Palatin Technologies research with Bremelanotide (as a drug for ED and FSD administered with a nasal mist)…

But as it turns out, Palatin Technologies is *still* working on Bremelanotide, except instead of “sniffing” it, a person would inject it into themselves similar to how some Diabetics do injections. Note this does NOT mean injecting Brem into a blood vessel/stream!  :-)

And this week Palatin Technologies published results of the most recent tests with Brem administered in this fashion – and it was GOOD news.   They reported patients reacted similar to those who tried Brem nasally in their old tests but WITHOUT the possible nausea and increased blood pressure that was used by the FDA to stop approval for Bremelanotide when taken the old way.

So now Palatin will go ahead with the next stage of clinical trials (stage 2b) and HOPEFULLY it’ll be available by prescription for people experiencing either erectile disorder or female sexual arousal disorder!

From the press release, here are the offical results of these latest trials:

Key Results

In all subjects, subcutaneous administration of bremelanotide resulted in consistent and predictable plasma concentrations at levels known from previous studies to improve erectile function. Other key results include:

  • No statistically significant difference in mean changes in blood pressure was seen in subjects receiving bremelanotide compared to placebo.
  • No clinically or statistically significant difference in the range of blood pressure changes was seen in subjects receiving bremelanotide compared to placebo.
  • No subject discontinued participation in the study as a result of protocol stopping rules based on blood pressure changes.
  • No subject discontinued participation in the study due to nausea.
  • No difference in the rate of vomiting observed between subjects receiving bremelanotide compared to placebo (one in each group).

Full press release here.

Stay tuned – I’ll post more when I see it (ie if/when they start those stage 2b trials).

New Documentary about "Female Viagra" on CTV’s W-Five

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Hey,

I just saw some news that a Canadian documentary show called W5 is showing a film called "Pharma Sutra" that's all about new "female viagras" being developed for Female Sexual Arousal Disorder (FSAD).

It also interviews some women  who are experiencing that condition and will certainly feature other news and information of interest.  One new product the show will apparently talk about is a nasal spray, which is certainly Bremelanotide – which Palatin Technologies has tweaked to create a new similar drug called PL-6983… which I'm sure they'll give a real name to soon, since Bremelanotide likewise use to be called PT-141.

There will be an update here soon after the documentary is shown on Saturday December 6, 2008 on the CTV channel is Canada….

You can read more about Bremelanotide and/or sign up for the "Bremelanotide Bulletin" here:

There's also a website about PL-6983 with a sign up form for upcoming information here:

The 'Pharma Sutra' documentary was created by a company called Cogent / Benger Productions here:

Palatin Technologies is developing PL-6983 and their website is here:

Bremelanotide Trials Results !

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Last week or so, the Bremelanotide Bulletin posted new results for post-menopausal women with FSD (female sexual disorder – and it's also being tested on men with erectile disorder too) as well as some new info for the previous results with pre-menopausal women.

It all looks VERY good !  :-)

Along with some great quotes by the women who tested Bremelanotide (formerly PT-141 and being developed by Palatin Technologies), including a chart or two, there's some additional content like a link to an ABC News article and accompanying video too!  Plus there is some information about a new study on the effects of male pheromones onwomen. Nothing ground breaking there as similar studies have pretty much showed the same thing – although not all scientists are 100% convinced.

Bremelanotide – It works!

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Well, I was hopeful Bremelanotide worked on women as well as it did on men (it was discovered to work on men first, by accident)…. and the latest results have convinced me that it definitely works on women too!

I've read the results from both premenopausal women as well as postmenopausal women, and there is a very obvious difference in arousal conditions between the women who took Bremelanotide (formerly PT 141) and those who took the placebo.

BTW, Bremolanotide is a drug treatment in the development / testing phase to treat both men with erectile dysfunction and women with female sexual arousal disorder. Palatin Technologies is the company currentlytesting this drug.

I'll find links to more information about these most recent results and post them here, as well as keep an ongoing journal to cover the progress of Bremelanotide from now, until it gets FDA approval, until it can be purchased! :-)
